A DESCRIPTION: Casey is the sort of person most people either like or find themselves repulsed by her. There isn't much room for grey with the girl. You see, sometimes she can be annoyingly optimistic and constantly happy. Sometimes she can act rather insane, thinking up crazy ideas that only she would understand. She gets confused easily and always seems anxious. Casey looks at the world for what it is; beautiful, even with the ugliness plaguing it. She enjoys colorful things, and that is why her hair has been every color of the rainbow at least twice. Her hair hasn't been her normal color since she was eleven; she doesn't even remember what color. And even when she decides to dye it brown, it's never the correct color, of that she is sure. Casey has bad vision and has to wear contacts; she will often by crazy colored ones to make herself stand out even more. Though she spends forever getting ready in the morning; fussing over her hair, makeup, and clothes, she isn't exactly shallow. After all, most girls tend to do that--the only ones who are shallow are those who flaunt it all constantly and brag about it. She is rather fearless when it comes to talking to people and trying new things. Honestly, it's probably how she was brought up and by whom.
Her mother, Riann Lewis, was an artist born in England. One day, while visiting the Louvre in Paris, she met Percy Simon, an aspiring musician. Long story short, it was love at first sight and they traveled he world together. They eventually settled in Nice, France for a while after learning Riann was pregnant with a baby girl. Casey was born as Persephone Lewis; since her mother and Percy weren't married, they decided it would be best to take on her mother's name. Early on, Casey had to learn her parents' languages; she became fluent in both English and French by age eight. Languages had always come easy to her; she also found herself learning Spanish through middle school and is currently learning Italian (and hopes German will come after!). She has great friends in both England and France, having lived in both for equal parts of her life, and finds it easy to switch between languages.
To be honest, Casey was always the weird outcast in school. She was known as the freak who was obsessed with her art and trying to make herself "unique". People were also driven away by her almost always optimistic attitude; they found it unsettling how chipper she always seemed to be. However, she didn't let this upset her; while many were driven away, there was always at least a few people who tried to be her friend. Some were boys who obviously only wanted to ask her out, others were truly interested in her as a person. While she made time for these special people, most of the time she did dedicate herself to her art. Like her mother, who by this time was a very successful artist earning a lot of money, she enjoyed painting. However, unlike her mother, she also enjoyed photography and incorporated it into her art; often combining the two and making something quite interesting. Casey would often sell her artwork for extra money and was happy people seemed interested. When a competition came along, whether it was school-wide, district-wide, or even something completely unrelated to school, Casey made sure to enter if it was within her comfort zone (painting and photography, remember?). More often than not, she received a prize which often contained money or a scholarship. By the time Casey was sixteen, she had gotten herself a good scholarship to the famous Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art in north-western France. At the same time, she got herself a job at a local art gallery; just a simple secretary. She eventually did get some of her own work into the exhibit and became well-known in Nice as being a young, successful, artist. Her "freak" status dwindled away until she was the weird yet interesting aspiring artist, sort of like her father. He, however, had left a year earlier to find better musical opportunities in America, promising to come back to visit. Casey and her mother both knew they wouldn't see him again.
Unfortunately, being so dedicated to art, Casey never paid much attention in class. She isn't too intelligent and is slightly naive; some things can be downright confusing to her. However, she doesn't let this stop her. Casey knows enough to realize when someone is lying, though she often takes this as face-value. She is cautious when it comes to important things, such as her art. However, about other things, she can be quite careless--or reckless. Then again, it isn't like Casey will be getting a job that will require such smarts such as maths. She already knows her destiny is to be an artist, and a freelance one at that. She already has a college scholarship lined up. It's all good.
Within the past two years, however, a lot of things have changed. Casey legally changed her name to Casey instead of Persephone, which she made her middle name. She delayed going to college another year, and will instead start this fall. Her mother left Nice to live in London, closer to her ill grandmother whom Casey had never met. She also broke up with her boyfriend of three years after drunkenly cheating on him. After that, he didn't want to stick around. Casey told herself she would stop drinking to prevent something like that would happen again (but who knows how long it'll last), though if she was honest, she knew she wouldn't stick with him forever.
Feeling completely alone in Nice, Casey sold the house she had been living in with her boyfriend (technically it was her mother's house, but she'd given it to Casey to live in and instead moved into a larger, penthouse apartment). She decided to go on an extended vacation to explore famous Italian cities several months ago and has been renting an apartment in Venice for two months now; finding the city quite intriguing. Casey is once again trying to focus on her art, hoping to get a good portfolio before going to college this fall. Of course, the festival is a good bonus.
