Nora's eyes fluttered open, upon hearing the sounds of the hustle and bustle outside. The neighborhood was awake and moving, it's another day. She heaved a soft sigh, hardly believing that she was actually here in Italy. And being here puts her one step closer to seeing her father for the first time. He doesn't even know she exists. That her twin sister existed. She felt a slight pang in her heart, at the thought of her sister. It's been a few years since her death, but Nora still feels guilt. A burden that she carries with her. Every day. And like Mom helps any, she thought to herself. Nora does love her mother and all, but the woman doesn't know how to show affection to her. Ever since she and her sister were old enough, Nora seemed to feel second-best.
Her sister was the girly girl, their mother enjoyed that. And Nora wasn't much of one. Her sister never made her feel that way. All she had cared about was Nora's happiness and that they're sisters.
Nora cracked a little smile at the memory, as she climbed out of bed. It was time to explore. Good thing she had a friend here. It had saved her money by not having to pay for a hotel room. Not to mention that she had missed her friend terribly and it would be good catch up with her, during her stay. She quickly bathed and got dressed into a simple outfit. From there, she wandered from the guest room to the kitchen.
Elena, her good friend, was there with her grandmother. They went to college together, until Elena had moved out here to take care of her grandmother. Her husband passed away, a year or two ago. Her good health seemed to falter a bit, so Elena volunteered to come live with her. "Morning, Nora. How did you sleep?" Elena asked with a smile. "Very well, thank you." Nora responded, claiming a seat at the table. Elena and her grandmother both made sure that she ate. Nora gladly obliged them, knowing it wouldn't bode well if she refused to eat. After breakfast, Elena escorted Nora around for a little bit. She had a few errands to run, so they decided to meet up for lunch.
Elena pointed out a little cafe and after a bit of wandering about the town, Nora made her way back towards the cafe. For about a couple of moments, Nora thought she was on the wrong street. She began to pull out her map, when someone had bumped into her and what Nora had in her hands fell to the ground. "Scusi.." she muttered to herself, as she bent down to pick up her things. Nora reached over to pick up her dictionary, when someone already beat her to it. She looked up.
